Statement on Responsible Research Assessment
The European University Institute of Law is
committed to the principles of responsible research assessment and supports the
fair evaluation of research outputs based on their scholarly quality,
originality, rigor, and societal impact.
The Institute recognizes that research should be
assessed on its own merits and not primarily through journal-based metrics. In
line with international best practices, the Institute supports transparency,
academic integrity, open science, and the recognition of diverse forms of
scholarly contribution, including publications, research infrastructure,
policy-oriented outputs, educational resources, and other forms of academic
engagement.
The Institute of Law endorses the principles of
the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and is committed to
promoting responsible research assessment practices across its research,
publishing, and academic activities.
This commitment is reflected in the Institute’s
support for high-quality scholarly publishing, open access to research, and the
development of research infrastructure that advances legal scholarship and
academic cooperation.
