Masterclass on “Case Law in the European Court of Human Rights”
On
May 17, 2016, the European University Institute of Law organized another
masterclass on the topic “Case Law in the European Court of Human Rights”.
The
lecture was delivered by Georgian scholar and former judge of the international
human rights court, Mindia Ugrekhelidze.
The
masterclass was conducted in an interactive format, allowing participants to
actively engage in discussion and deepen their knowledge of the practical
aspects of European human rights law. The speaker’s many years of judicial
experience attracted particular interest, as he shared with the audience the
key elements of his professional practice in detail.
Special
attention was paid to the importance of the precedent-based case law of the
European Court of Human Rights, its role in national legal systems, and the
mechanisms through which the Court’s practice is developed.
Mindia
Ugrekhelidze shared the experience he had accumulated during his work at the
Strasbourg Court and reviewed some of the most significant and influential
cases in the field of human rights protection. He placed particular emphasis on
the Court’s approaches to issues such as the right to a fair trial, freedom of
expression, and the protection of private life.
The
masterclass provided participants with an opportunity not only to deepen their
theoretical knowledge, but also to gain practical insight into the functioning
of international human rights protection mechanisms.
