The Strasbourg International Institute of Human Rights conducted the first training course in the South Caucasus

On October 16-20, 2017, the European University hosted the Strasbourg International Institute for Human Rights, which visited the South Caucasus for the first time. Within the framework of the event, at the European University, the Ambassador of France to Georgia - Pascal Menie and cooperative attachés of the embassy, the chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia - Eka Beselia, the first deputy of the Ombudsman of Georgia - Eka Katsitadze, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department committed in the course of legal proceedings of the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia - Irakli Nadareishvili, Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Academy and lawyers of non-governmental organizations were present.
Within the framework of the course, professors invited from Europe gave lectures to project participants on international human rights law for 5 days. Among the invited lecturers were: Rick Leveson - Professor of Law School at Leiden University (Netherlands), Antoine Madeleine - Director of the International Federation of Human Rights, Antoine Kabore - University of Manchester, Zuzana Kovalova - expert of UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
As the Ambassador of France to Georgia, Pascal Menie, said, the Strasbourg International Institute of Human Rights, who visited Georgia for the first time, is a very essential organization in France: "It has a long history. I reckon our cooperation with the European University will be fruitful."
Among the listeners were Law Students from different universities of Georgia, including European University, JIPA, International Black Sea University and Tbilisi State University. In addition, representatives of the Ombudsman Office, Judges, Lawyers and Jurists working in various fields from Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the end of the course, the participants of the project were tested and certificates confirming the relevant knowledge were given.
Tbilisi State University student - Esma Gumberidze, who became the winner of the project, received the highest grade. In 2018, he will go on a one-month lecture course to Strasbourg.
The event was organized by the European University Institute of Law. The program supporters were the European University, the French Embassy in Georgia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
